I was enrolled in VIET 100B: Advanced Vietnamese Winter 2021 and studied Chu Nom literature and poetry from the Tang dynasty to the Nguyen dynasty. This is the last poem we studied, and I was really enamored by its message, so I wanted to illustrate it and share it in English. The poem was written by Nguyen Du in the 19th century and takes place during the Ming Dynasty, and the plot was taken from an obscure Chinese novel called Jin Yun Qiao written by Qingxin Cairen (Pure Heart Talented Man).
